The Infected Blood Inquiry has commissioned a supplementary report from the hepatitis expert group (convened by Dr Graham Cooke) about palliative care for people with advanced liver disease.
The additional letter of instruction asks Dr Hazel Woodland, Dr Ben Hudson, and Dr Fiona Finlay (all recently nominated by the Inquiry) to address a number of topics related to palliative care in this context, including:
- the role of palliative care in advanced liver disease
- the hallmarks of effective palliative care
- whether the care currently offered by the NHS demonstrates these hallmarks
- whether there are barriers to accessing such palliative care
- improvements in this care since 2000.
