Inquiry opens registration for hearings with Government witnesses

b

The witness timetable for hearings with Government witnesses in the weeks of 19 and 26 July has now been published here.

We are asking people who wish to attend the hearings to register their interest by Friday 25 June here

During these hearings we will take evidence from:

  • Dr Diana Walford, a Principal Medical Officer from 1979 to 1983 and a Senior Principal Medical Officer from 1983 to 1989 in the Department of Health and Social Security
  • Lord Simon Glenarthur, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health and Social Security from 1983 to 1985, and
  • Lord Kenneth Clarke, Minister of State for Health from 1982 to 1985 and Secretary of State for Health from 1988-90.

The Inquiry will continue to facilitate the participation of everyone watching proceedings remotely by offering access to a live broadcast, in addition to the YouTube broadcast which has a short time delay.

Members of the Inquiry’s British Red Cross team will be present at the hearings and the confidential phone support will continue as usual.

We are asking anyone who is considering whether to attend the hearings to think carefully about the risks and benefits before registering. Due to the continued risk from coronavirus and social distancing measures, the number of Inquiry participants, recognised legal representatives, and media who can attend is significantly lower than before the pandemic and, as usual, we will operate a ballot for seats if oversubscribed. We will aim to confirm places by 1 July.

Registration for later hearings will be announced on the Inquiry website, and by email to everyone on our mailing list. You can join the Inquiry’s mailing list by emailing [email protected] or calling 0808 169 1377.
