The Inquiry has published a report on fractionation: the process by which whole blood is separated into its component parts for subsequent use in medicinal products. The authors are Dr Paul Strengers and Dr Ruth Laub of the fractionation expert group.
The report describes the processes of fractionation and production of fractionated blood products, viral inactivation and reduction treatment, and the production of plasma-derived medicinal products, recombinant products and therapies.
Hearings on self-sufficiency and the domestic production of blood products are scheduled from Tuesday 15 March to Friday 1 April. You can find the full timetable here.
