Inquiry clarifies objectives for monitoring liver damage.
Following the publication of the Inquiry Report, the Inquiry was contacted by some hepatologists and NHS England. They sought clarification of one of the Inquiry’s recommendations. Specifically, they had questions about recommendation 6, which is about how liver damage should be monitored for people who were infected with Hepatitis C (see Volume 1).
As a result of these clarificatory questions, the Inquiry has issued a letter to the four national health services. The letter explains that the objective of recommendation 6 is that there should be both surveillance for hepatocellular cancer and monitoring for the progression of fibrosis and cirrhosis in the particular groups identified in the recommendation.
